Howdy fans!
Friday was not as beautiful as I had seen, but the rain only briefly rained and made things a bit damp. For Phoenix, I guess it was a gully washer. The drainage system actually had to at least see some water, if not requiring to move any from one point to another.
The drive began with some backtracking to Scottsdale, and me trying to find the house that my parents lived in when they were residents there. After a call to Dad to confirm, I found it, and snapped a few pics to show him when I return. I'm curious to see how tall that palm tree was when they lived there.
From there, I headed out for Las Vegas, and hit distinct areas of brush, then brush and cactai, then no cactai but brush and joshua trees, then no trees but brush and cactai. Maybe it was elevation change or soil; I don't know why but there appeared to be distinct changes in why there wasn't brush cactai and Joshua trees all at the same time.
It wasn't long after that when the region along Lake Mead and Hoover Damn appeared. It is amazing, the structure itself, and the amount of activity surrounding it. Not only do you have high security nowdays, but construction is all around because of the new bridge crossing the Colorado River Gorge. That will be a hell of a view when complete.
I made it to Cushman field for the Memphis Redbirds visiting the Las Vegas 51s. It wasn't as hot as I was expecting, and became a batting practice session for both teams. Final score: 12-10 Vegas.
A drive down the Strip (always wanted to do it) was slow, but eventful. So many new things, and a number of drive thru wedding chapels. Nothing to report.
Todays drive is all interstate. First and only day that is the case. Friend Jenny has hooked me up with some sweet Nationals at Dodgers tickets tonite. This is the game this trip was tailored around...the grand enchilada.
Good times. Enjoy the pics.
