Wow.
I'd redo the last two days starting tomorrow. We have some beautiful country in this country. And I'm just talking about Colorado and Arizona.
I started today headed for the Four Corners Monument. I arrived excited, but was disappointed. Closed for construction. Well then. Guess I'll have to come back
I then continued through the Navajo Nation. I didn't see too many cigarettes, but they have a monopoly on the gas station/ grocery/laundromat places. That's the main thing found at most intersections, and sometimes the only structure.
As o headed south, I felt some peace knowing I was in the middle of nowhere; lots of nothing. Something to be appreciated there.
Coming south just past Ganado, I saw the turnoff for Hubbell Trading Post, the longest continuously operated post. A national park now, and still operating. Really neat. I bought spme stuffs. I'd Stop again.
About a half hour I reached I-40. I then realized that I hadn't been on interstate since Glenwood Springs, Colorado. And frankly, I didn't really miss it. At all.
Shortly I found myself at the Painted Desert National Park. I acquired my National Park Card, and acquired my first stamps for the Petrified Forest, Painted Desert Inn and the Painted Desert. And seeing the painted desert with my own eyes just put me beside myself. God's hand is huge. The desert just kept going. And going. And going.
And then, its 20 miles to the Petrified Forest. Through the park of more painted desert. Blue desert. Amazing.
Before I left my friend reminded me of the Meteor Crator before Flagstaff. 3/4 mile across, 550 foot in depth...that's a big hole. Just another reminder that we aren't in control of some things.
And, to finish the day, there were two Shiners, but now none. And tomorrow? Grand Canyon, scenic tour thru Prescott, and then some Padres at Diamondbacks. Phoenix expecting 110 degrees...game indoors, thanks.
Until tomorrow. God Bless.
